Crown Fire refers to a wildfire that moves by jumping rapidly through the tops of the trees, independent of ground movement. The segmentation of the layers of washi (handmade Japanese tissue papers) represent successive moments in the ongoing course of a large wildfire that can jump from treetop to treetop in seconds, yet continue to consume and burn for weeks or months.
