Steampunk – Victorian Inspired Science Fiction

The Japanese Torii Gate is commonly found at the entrance to a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the profane to the sacred. In a Steampunk alternative future, perhaps the followers of the Shinto religion would instead use a machine like the “Orphic Torii Gate” to reach spiritual vitality.

The platform of this Torri Gate machine is resting on a pair of sori-bashi (arched) bridges. The framed image is Hachiman, tutelary god of warriors and divine protector of Japan. Behind the Torii Gate, a Japanese Moon Gate surrounds the brass gong, which can symbolize mysticism and good luck.
